Amarone Valpolicella

DOCG
The Amarone Valpolicella DOCG is more than a wine – it is the essence of Veneto. Each dried grape tells stories of patience, craftsmanship, and nature. Its aromas of dried fruits, spices, and dark chocolate reflect a depth that only time can create. A wine that moves both the mind and the heart.

An ideal accompaniment to full-flavoured dishes, dishes with red meat and mature cheese, but also game and roast dishes.

Wine history

In the idyllic region of Cazzano di Tramigna, near the picturesque Soave, the story of the Bennati family began in 1870. Antonio Bennati, affectionately known as "Toni Recioto" – inspired by the renowned straw wine of the Verona region – laid the foundation for a winemaking tradition that continues to this day. With passion and dedication, he devoted himself to viticulture, selling his fine creations in the characteristic straw-covered bottles of the time.

After the challenges of the First World War, Antonio and his son Annibale founded the Cantine Bennati winery in 1920. Today, in its fourth generation, the winery represents the perfect blend of tradition and innovation. For the winemakers, crafting wine is not merely a craft but a journey that tells stories, evokes emotions, and transports people to special places. With a dedicated team, they create wines that leave lasting impressions and offer timeless moments.

Tasting note

A deep, opaque red colour with violet reflections in the glass. An intense aroma of preserved fruit and jam unfolds on the nose. On the palate, the wine is extremely elegant, characterised by a harmonious balance between strength and smoothness. The complex finish captivates with clear notes of cherry, blackberry and raspberry jam as well as an intense, spicy flavour.

Vinification

The grapes harvested in September are stored in well-ventilated rooms, where they dry slightly until December or January, following the traditional method of Amarone della Valpolicella.

The semi-dried grapes are then destemmed and pressed. The berries and must are transferred to tanks along with selected yeasts to initiate alcoholic fermentation. This fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures (24–25 °C) to extract the fruity components from the grape skins and the gentler elements from the seeds.

Short but frequent délestage helps release all the substances contained in the grape skins, giving the wine clear aromas of red-fleshed fruits.
