This Malbec is an excellent accompaniment to grilled Argentine beef, lamb chops or game dishes. It also goes well with spicy pasta, stews and strong cheeses such as Manchego or mature Cheddar.
Escorihuela Gascon was founded in Godoy Cruz in 1884, making it the oldest winery in the city of Mendoza. Its visionary founder, Miguel Escorihuela, created a house that played a decisive role in Argentina's rise to wine power. To this day, the bodega combines tradition with innovation and cultivates vines at the foot of the Andes. Escorihuela Gascon stands for Malbec with provenance, expressiveness and a piece of the Argentine soul.
The 1884 Malbec Estate Grown from Escorihuela Gascon is a deep purple red in colour. The nose reveals aromas of ripe blackberries, plums and cherries, accompanied by subtle notes of violets, chocolate and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and juicy, with smooth tannins, a harmonious structure and a long, aromatic finish.
60% of the wine is aged for eight months in French and American oak, the rest in stainless steel tanks.
The grapes for the 1884 Malbec Estate Grown come 80% from Agrelo and 20% from Finca El Cepillo. There, high altitudes, cool nights and calcareous soils ensure the dense fruit and elegance that characterise this Malbec.
