Hahn Estates' Founders Merlot is the perfect accompaniment to grilled beef, braised lamb or entrecôte. It also comes into its own with pasta with spicy tomato sauce, mushroom risotto or mature cheeses such as Cheddar and Pecorino.
Jerry Lohr founded his winery in the early 1970s when he planted his first vines in Monterey and recognised the potential of the Central Coast. A few years later, vineyards followed in Paso Robles, where Cabernet Sauvignon found ideal conditions. With a pioneering spirit and perseverance, J. Lohr developed into one of California's best-known family wineries – famous for powerful yet elegant wines such as Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon.
J. Lohr's Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep ruby red in colour. The nose reveals aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis and black cherries, underpinned by hints of vanilla, dark chocolate and a touch of cedar wood. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with soft tannins and a long, harmonious finish.
The wine was aged for 12 months in 60-gallon American oak barrels, 18% of which were new. Mostly medium-toasted oak from Missouri and Minnesota was used, with additional toasted barrel heads.
The grapes for Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon come from J. Lohr's own vineyards in Paso Robles, including the Sinclair and Jones Ranch sites. The soils range from gravelly loam to calcareous subsoil and offer ideal conditions.
