This Merlot pairs excellently with red meat, filet mignon and dishes with rich sauces. It accompanies a beef fillet with jus, veal medallions with mushrooms or braised vegetables with herbs and roasted notes beautifully.
Château d’Auvernier is one of Neuchâtel’s most historic estates. The château was built in 1559, and the estate and its vineyards have been in the family since 1603. For generations, wine has remained the soul of the house; today, Henry Aloys Grosjean and his team continue this long history with a clear sense of origin, meticulous cellar work and great respect for tradition.
On the nose, the Merlot Sélection Privée reveals ripe plums, blueberries and dark berry fruit. On the palate, it is soft, dense and yet precise, with fine tannins, lovely fruit intensity and a subtle hint of oak from ageing in 228-litre barrels. A characterful Merlot with a quiet power and a refined profile.
The wine is aged in 228-litre barrels. It is recommended to decant the wine before serving to allow the fruit, tannins and structure to unfold harmoniously.
The grapes come from Auvernier in the canton of Neuchâtel, not far from Lake Neuchâtel. The proximity to the lake, the sloping terroir and the temperate climate characterise a Merlot with freshness, fruit and a fine structure.
