The Fehr&Engeli winery began as a hobby: In the late 1960s, founders Bruno Fehr and Emil Engeli, newcomers to the industry, purchased the last remaining vineyard parcel in Ueken. After clearing the land, they planted noble European grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Rhine Riesling, and Riesling X Sylvaner. Unable to find anyone to vinify their grapes, they delved into the subject and, with the support of a winemaker from the Fricktal, began producing their own wines. The young business steadily grew: the cultivated vineyard areas expanded, and other grape producers in the Fricktal entrusted their harvests to these innovative winemakers for vinification.
