Culinary recommendation
chevron-down

Gengis pairs very well with hearty Ticino and Mediterranean dishes featuring mushrooms, polenta, or grilled flavors. It's especially delicious with saffron risotto with porcini mushrooms, grilled Luganighetta (a type of sausage), or polenta with braised beef.

Wine history
chevron-down

Matasci Vini is a family-run Ticino winery based in Tenero with a history dating back to 1921. From the work of Giuseppe Matasci, a house has emerged over four generations, closely linked to Merlot and the hillside vineyards surrounding Lake Maggiore. Experience, meticulous attention to detail, and hospitality continue to define the family's identity.

Tasting note
chevron-down

Intense ruby red with purple reflections. The nose reveals a broad spectrum of aromas, including ripe red and dark fruits, spices, coffee, and cocoa. On the palate, it is rich, vibrant, and fresh, with ripe tannins, notes of jam and spices, and a long, powerful finish.

Vinification
chevron-down

The grape varieties are harvested, vinified, and aged separately before being blended. Fermentation takes place for approximately 14 days at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures for 12 months in second- and third-use French oak barrels.

Vineyards

The grapes come from the canton of Ticino. The sun-drenched vineyards and the climate influenced by Lake Maggiore promote ripe fruit, spicy depth, and the typical southern character of this red wine.
