In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired what was then Château Brane-Mouton so that he could serve wine from his own estate to his guests. From then on, the estate bore the name Mouton Rothschild. Later, Baron Philippe cemented the myth with innovations such as bottling ‘au château’ and artist labels. Today, Mouton remains synonymous with prestige and creativity.
Mouton-Rothschild combines opulence and precision: intense notes of cassis, blackberry and dark cherry, accompanied by cedar wood, tobacco and fine spices. Powerful and velvety on the palate, supported by ripe tannins and great length. A wine that ages majestically and exudes fascination for decades.
The grapes are harvested by hand and by plot. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for around 18 to 22 months in new French oak barriques. This ageing process gives it complexity, structure and longevity without masking its fruity character.
The Mouton-Rothschild vineyards are located in the heart of Pauillac on the typical gravelly hills of the Médoc. These deep soils store heat and ensure perfect ripening of the grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot – the basis for Mouton's unmistakable signature.
