The Underestimated

Château Petit-Village MC

AC Pomerol
What grows in the immediate vicinity of Pomerol's Haute Volée can only be of exceptional quality. For a long time, this wine was unable to reveal its full potential due to a lack of motivation from the previous owners. With the new owners, this wine will soon claim its place among the top 10 estates of Pomerol.

Culinary recommendation

A wine that excellently pairs not only with all dishes featuring red meat but also with scallops, truffle-based dishes, or fish à la bordelaise.

Wine history
chevron-down

Château Petit-Village is located on the upper part of the beautiful Pomerol plateau, at an altitude between 35 and 38 meters, on a vineyard with excellent gravel soils, right in the heart of the appellation. This privileged location is ideal for producing exceptional wines that faithfully express the unique character of this terroir.

At Petit-Village, our goal was to combine traditional vineyard practices with state-of-the-art technology to optimize the great potential of the estate without compromising nature. Today, the results of this approach are evident in the extensive restructuring of the vineyard and the renovation of the winery and cellars.

Every step leading to the bottling of the wine – from the hand harvesting to the aging in barrels – is guided by a commitment to the values of the terroir and a desire to preserve its most authentic expression.

The wines of Château Petit-Village are smooth, powerful, and harmonious, with the richness and incomparable finesse of the greatest Pomerols.

Tasting note
chevron-down

Already on the nose, Petit Village expresses a hedonistic quality, but not in the excessive opulence found in many overrated Bordeaux wines. Instead, it presents itself in a sophisticated, complex, delicate, and well-balanced manner. On the palate, the wine is as fresh and refined as the greatest – and now often unaffordable – wines from Pomerol, yet it remains so balanced thanks to its glorious fruit intensity, making it a wine one would simply want to dive into.

Vinification

After hand harvesting, the grapes are quickly transported to the press house. There, they are carefully selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Rather than being dogmatically aged in heavily toasted new oak to please certain critics, the wine is carefully matured year after year in a fine balance of new and one-year-old oak.

Vineyards
chevron-down

The vineyards of Château Petit Village are located on the world-renowned gravel soils of Pomerol, in one of the best positions on the plateau, right in the heart of the appellation. The immediate neighbors are true icons of the wine world, including legends such as Le Pin, Petrus, Vieux Château Certan, and La Conseillante. The vineyard of Château Petit Village is a large, contiguous plot, although it features a variety of different soils. While the aforementioned gravel soils dominate, they are sometimes mixed with clay, and occasionally with quartz, iron, and flint.
