The winery Ismael Arroyo – ValSotillo represents a centuries-old family tradition of winemaking, dating back to the 16th century. In 1979, Ismael Arroyo, a pioneer in the Ribera del Duero region, began bottling wines under the brands Mesoneros de Castilla and ValSotillo. As a co-founder of the D.O. Ribera del Duero in 1982, the winery combines deep historical roots with an unwavering commitment to timeless quality. The wines are crafted for longevity and rank among the most elegant and complex in the region, steering clear of fleeting trends and modern fads.
In the glass, the wine has a deep red colour with a delicate cherry red shimmer. It is full-bodied and pleasant on the palate, with fruity flavours, spicy roasted aromas and gently integrated, balanced tannins.
The grapes are handpicked annually between October 3rd and 13th. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for six months in French and American oak barrels, stored in a 16th-century cellar at a constant temperature of 12°C.
The vineyards with their clay and limestone soils, on which the Tempranillo grapes for this wine ripen, are located at around 840 metres above sea level.
