Culinary recommendation
chevron-down

A versatile accompaniment to antipasti, risotto and light meat dishes. It pairs particularly well with porcini mushroom risotto, veal escalope or a Ticino salami and cheese platter.

Wine history
chevron-down

The Matasci winery was founded in Tenero in 1921 and is now run as a family business by the fourth generation. Around Lake Maggiore, characterful Ticino wines are produced, combining traditional winemaking with modern cellar techniques. Alongside wine production, Matasci is also committed to preserving the region’s wine culture and runs a wine museum and an enoteca.

Tasting note
chevron-down

Bright ruby red. On the nose, fresh aromas of redcurrants, cherries and raspberries. On the palate, the wine is juicy and well-balanced, with fine, soft tannins, a pleasant freshness and a harmonious, fruit-driven finish.

Vinification
chevron-down

The Merlot is fermented traditionally on the skins and aged in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. This preserves its fruity aromas and its approachable, elegant style.

Vineyards
chevron-down
The grapes come from the hilly vineyards of the canton of Ticino around Lake Maggiore. The mild climate south of the Alps and the mineral-rich soils lend the wine its fresh fruit, fine structure and balanced elegance.
