This Marselan pairs superbly with hearty meat dishes and aromatic cuisine. It is particularly well-suited to braised shoulder of lamb, grilled entrecôte, porcini mushroom risotto or braised beef with Mediterranean herbs.
Hammel – Terres de Vins was founded in Rolle in 1921 and developed from a cooperage into one of Switzerland’s most renowned wine houses. Today, the family-run business oversees the wine from vineyard to bottle and works with selected vineyards in Vaud and Valais. The house is known for terroir-driven wines characterised by precision, continuity and a modern style.
Deep purple with violet highlights. On the nose, blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries unfold, accompanied by subtle toasted notes, spices and a hint of cocoa. On the palate, the Vaud wine is both powerful and supple, with ripe fruit, silky tannins and a long, spicy finish.
Maceration lasts around three weeks, before the wine is aged in French barriques for approximately 18 months. Ageing on the fine lees lends it additional depth and structure.
The grapes come from south- to south-east-facing slopes in the canton of Vaud at an altitude of 450 to 500 metres. The chalky and mineral-rich soils promote concentration, freshness and aromatic complexity.
