Culinary recommendation
chevron-down

A versatile Pinot Noir red wine for by-the-glass service, which pairs well with meat dishes, pasta and cheese. Particularly lovely with veal strips with mushrooms, roast pork with herbs or homemade ravioli stuffed with porcini mushrooms.

Facts

Oskar Mathier-Oggier AG is listed as the producer on the wine label, in honour of Diego Mathier’s grandfather, Oskar Mathier-Oggier.

Wine history
chevron-down

The Mathier family has been linked to Salgesch for over 600 years. The foundations for today’s winery were laid by Ferdinand Mathier, who recognised early on the role that soils, vineyard sites and microclimates play in producing great Valais wines. Today, Nadia and Diego Mathier carry on the family business, combining this experience with modern winemaking techniques and a clear vision for the future.

Tasting note
chevron-down

Bright ruby red. On the nose, ripe cherries, raspberries and red wild berries emerge, accompanied by a subtle spiciness. On the palate, the Pinot Noir is soft, fruit-driven and well-balanced, with fine tannins, pleasant freshness and a harmonious, juicy finish.

Vinification
chevron-down

The Pinot Noir grapes are fermented traditionally on the skins and then matured in stainless steel tanks. This preserves the clear fruitiness, the supple structure and the approachable character.

Vineyards

The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Valais. The dry Alpine climate, intense sunshine and marked temperature differences between day and night promote ripe fruit, freshness and a balanced structure.
