This Malbec is a real team player with hearty but not overpowering dishes: try it with grilled entrecôte with chimichurri, juicy lamb chops or – typically Argentinean – empanadas with beef filling. Mature Manchego or blue cheese also go very well with it.
On an estancia, once home to proud racehorses, Dieter Meier – Swiss musician and lateral thinker – has created a new stage: wine. What he brought to the charts with Yello can be found here – attitude, rhythm, character. Since the 1990s, he has been focusing on biodynamic diversity with wine, meat, nuts and honey in the Pampa Húmeda. The ‘winner spirit’ remains palpable: uncompromising, unadulterated, in the glass as well as in the mind.
Dark purple in the glass, with lush blackberry and a hint of raspberry compote on the nose, accompanied by violets and a subtle hint of blackcurrant leaves. Juicy and fresh on the palate, with clear fruit, soft acidity and flattering tannins. Medium-bodied, but with a finish that cannot be underestimated.
The wine is aged in stainless steel and concrete tanks.
The grapes grow on the Estancia Ojo de Agua in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo (Mendoza), at the foot of the Andes at an altitude of around 1,100 metres. Around 20-year-old vines, organically cultivated and rooted in natural alluvial soils, deliver a wine with a distinctive, terroir-driven character thanks to dense planting and deliberately low yields.
