The history of the winery dates back to the 16th century. In 1816, Jakob Engel purchased the so-called Aebischer House, laying the foundation for the modern estate. Originally from Thurgau, the Engel family settled by Lake Biel as early as the Middle Ages. The field name "Frauenkapf," which traces back to the Cistercian nuns of Fraubrunnen Abbey, inspired the modern name "Frauenkopf." During the late Middle Ages, this area was owned by the abbey. Today, Frauenkapf is still regarded as one of the winery’s top sites, defined by the region's iconic dry-stone walls and offering a breathtaking view of St. Peter’s Island.
Nobly fruity, complex, and compact. Spicy notes of dried plums, combined with a vibrant structure and smooth, velvety tannins.
This wine matures in stainless steel tanks.
The landscape at the southern foot of the Jura is defined by dry, rocky soils rich in limestone. The terroir also benefits from the lake's heat-retaining properties. Combined with slopes of up to 60 percent, this creates ideal conditions for viticulture.
