Excellent with Tuscan cuisine and hearty meat dishes. Particularly enjoyable with pappardelle al ragù di cinghiale, Bistecca alla Fiorentina or braised beef with rosemary potatoes. Also delicious with aged Pecorino cheese.
At least 70% Sangiovese grapes are used for this wine, complemented by other red grape varieties.
Matasci Vini is a family-owned wine company from Tenero in Ticino, founded in 1921. What began with Giuseppe Matasci recognising the potential of the hills around Lake Maggiore developed over generations into a house combining Ticino wine culture, hospitality and carefully selected wines from Switzerland and abroad.
Bright ruby red with light garnet reflections. The nose reveals ripe cherry, plum and violet aromas, accompanied by subtle spice. On the palate balanced, juicy and persistent, with velvety tannins and a long, elegant finish.
The grapes are gently pressed and fermented with local yeasts in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Maceration lasts around 15 to 20 days, followed by at least 24 months of ageing, including a minimum of 18 months in oak and additional bottle ageing.
The grapes come from the La Ciarliana and Cervognano vineyards in Montepulciano at around 300 metres above sea level. Clay and tufaceous soils give the wine structure, spice and the elegant tension typical of great Sangiovese.
