The Château Phélan Ségur red wine is a Bordeaux with an excellent price-performance ratio, which is ideal as an accompaniment to braised dishes such as lamb gigot, beef shoulder, roast pork or ossobuco.
Château Phélan Ségur was founded in 1810 by Frank Phélan, of Irish descent. He had the opportunity to acquire and combine the two renowned estates of Clos de Garamey and Château Ségur. Later, the Château came into the possession of the Delon family, who now manage the prestigious Leoville Las Cases estate in Saint-Julien. Since 2017, Pierre and Philippe Van de Vyvere have been the new owners of Phélan Ségur.
A ruby-red wine with violet reflections. The nose is very intense, offering aromas of fully ripe black fruits like black currant and blackberry, perfectly balanced with subtle roasted and buttery notes. On the palate, the flavorful texture provides immense pleasure, reminiscent of the perfect ripeness of an early vintage. A “classic” from the Médoc, with racy tannins and a structure that reveals elegance at the start, creaminess in the mid-palate, and power in the finish.
Selective hand-harvesting, fermentation in stainless steel tanks, and aging for up to 18 months in new and used barrels.
The wines of Saint-Estèphe, with their pronounced acidity and robust tannins, are the epitome of classic Médoc wines. Their distinct profile is due to the unique terroir of this region. Located just north of Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the four prestigious communes of the Médoc. While Cabernet Sauvignon is the leading grape variety at the most renowned Châteaux, some producers here place Merlot at the forefront of their blends.
