The Powerful

Château Siran MC

AC Margaux
Here, where the roots of the old vines burrow deep into the silicate and gravel soils, producing grapes that exquisitely embody the climatic and stylistic characteristics of Margaux, a truly worthy and powerful representative of Old World wines is born — one that the famous former estate owner Toulouse-Lautrec once appreciated.

A superb companion to refined dishes such as lamb chops with truffle sauce, seared duck breast, pan-fried sweetbreads, lamb stew with chickpeas and dried figs, or a classic ossobuco.

Wine history
chevron-down

The history of Château Siran dates back to 1428, making it one of the oldest estates in the Margaux appellation. Over the centuries, it was once owned by the grandparents of the famous painter Toulouse Lautrec, who sold it to the Miailhe family in the mid-19th century. In 2014, a long period of renovations was completed, with the cellar, all technical facilities, and the château's museum being fully updated. If you ever visit Château Siran, be sure to explore the wine cellar, which is the only one in the entire Bordeaux region designed to withstand a nuclear explosion. In the 1980s, the owners wanted to protect the estate from a potential disaster at the nearby Blayais nuclear power plant.

Tasting note
chevron-down

This vintage is powerful yet refined, achieving a perfect balance between tannins, fruit, and acidity. It impresses with its aromas of blackberries, raspberries, and rose petals, accompanied by crushed violets. On the palate, it displays a medium body with juicy dark fruits and a subtle hint of salinity. The harmonious finish reveals well-integrated wood. A seductive Margaux, full of elegance and sensuality. Its complex structure and silky tannins create a profound, elegant tasting experience, marked by red fruits and a hint of spices. Thanks to the Petit Verdot grape, this wine gains finesse, concentration, and is distinguished by the characteristic spicy finish typical of Château Siran.

Vinification

After hand harvesting, the grapes are promptly brought to the winery. There, they are carefully sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, depending on the vintage, with 35% of the barrels being new. The blend of this vintage consists of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot.

Vineyards

Château Siran, which comes from a 25-hectare vineyard in the Margaux appellation, benefits from vines that are on average 31 years old and are planted on ancient alluvial soils of sand and gravel. The grapes for Château Siran's wines grow on sandy and gravelly soils, typical of the Grands Crus in Margaux.
