The Fendant du Ravin is a Valais white wine that pairs excellently as an aperitif, with a variety of Valais cheese specialties, or with freshwater fish dishes. A true delight with trout gently steamed in vegetable broth, refined with verjus, and served on a bed of crisp seasonal garden vegetables.
Fendant, alongside the red Dôle, is one of the most famous Swiss wines. While the grape and the wine are known as Chasselas in western Switzerland, they are called Fendant in Valais and Gutedel in Germany.
The French word "Ravin" means gorge. This gorge, also depicted on the label of our Fendant du Ravin, holds special significance. A proud Valaisan knight is said to have fought bravely against Napoleon's overwhelming armies in the Battle of Pfyn at the end of the 18th century.
Although the resistance fell to the enemy, the proud knight, with a daring leap over the Dala mountain stream gorge, managed to save not only himself but also the virtues of Valais. Symbolically, the Fendant has preserved the tradition of Valais wines and successfully defended itself against foreign influences.
This wine, like the daring knight, stands proud, determined, and full of Valaisan character.
Our Fendant du Ravin is remarkably fruity, easy-drinking, elegant, harmonious, and dry – in short, a wine for any occasion.
The Fendant undergoes traditional winemaking. The blend of Chasselas grapes from the classic Valais vineyards experiences alcoholic fermentation with partial malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
