Sapphires have long been known as precious stones, although the name initially referred only to the blue variety. The word "sapphire" comes from ancient Greek and means "blue stone." However, this gemstone can be found in many other shimmering colors: green, orange, brown, and pink – a spectrum of colors reflecting the constant changes of the seasons, to which the oak barrel holding our fine Pinot Noir Saphir is also exposed under the open sky.
Deep ruby red color, combined with a very complex nose reminiscent of red fruits and ripe plums. On the palate, it is warm and rounded off by natural residual sweetness. The complex structure of this noble and unique wine is supported by pleasant acidity. The residual sugar and solid tannins ensure excellent aging potential.
Late harvest at 140° Oechsle. Temperature-controlled fermentation on the lees.
Grown in Grand Cru vineyards of Salgesch. Sheltered from the valley winds, in a basin of limestone debris, the over 30-year-old vines reach a maximum Oechsle degree of around 140°. The unique climate in Salgesch, with little rainfall and up to 300 sunny days per year, ensures optimal growing conditions.
