Its aromatic richness pairs excellently with spicy, sweet-and-savoury and robust dishes. It harmonises particularly well with a Thai curry with coconut milk, foie gras or mature Munster cheese; it is also a delightful choice with an apricot tart.
The Ziegler family has been growing grapes in Hunawihr since 1634. Fernand and Emmy Ziegler began vinifying and marketing their own wines in 1961; the estate was later expanded to include, amongst other things, the Clos Saint-Ulrich. Today, Antoine Ziegler continues to run the family estate, combining the house’s long-standing experience with environmentally friendly, HVE-certified viticulture.
Deep golden yellow. On the nose, an intense bouquet of lychee, ripe mango, quince and rose petals unfolds, accompanied by honey, cloves and exotic spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, supple and richly aromatic, with a delicate residual sweetness, a refreshing acidity and a long, spicy finish.
The Gewürztraminer is fermented at a controlled, low temperature and then matured in stainless steel tanks. This vinification preserves the variety’s characteristic fruit, floral notes and intense spiciness.
The grapes grow in the vineyards around Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé and Zellenberg at the foot of the Vosges mountains. The sheltered, sunny slopes of Alsace promote high ripeness and lend the Gewurztraminer its distinctive aromatics and generous structure.
