The refreshing

Heida Les Pyramides

AOC Valais
The early-ripening grapes of this wine thrive in the rugged high-altitude vineyards of Valais, up to 1150 meters, in Europe’s highest vineyards. Heida means "from pagan times" in Valaisan dialect; the Celts already cultivated this grape in Valais. The refreshing quality in the glass comes from a finely tuned blend of different vineyard sites and well-integrated acidity.

Perfect with freshwater fish, crustaceans, shellfish, and mountain cheese. In Valais, we like to serve our Heida with escargots in a rich herb butter sauce.

Wine history
chevron-down

Even before Christianization, as archaeological findings show, the Celts cultivated Heida in Valais. They chose an especially exposed site near Visperterminen, now known as the highest vineyard north of the Alps.

The harsh climate at 1150 meters is perfect for the early-ripening grape. However, to achieve a full, broad structure along with vibrant acidity, it’s important to grow the grape variety at different locations. The Heida Les Pyramides from Mathier thrives on steep slopes around 750 meters in Turtmann and Venthône.

Tasting note
chevron-down

Fruity notes of apricot and peach dominate the nose. On the palate, the Heida is full-bodied, with subtle, well-integrated roasted flavors. The finish is long-lasting, accompanied by light, elegant tannins.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed and directly pressed. The first fermentation takes place mostly in new barrels. We limit the second fermentation to a select number of barrels. After 9 months of aging in French oak barrels, the Heida is ready to be enjoyed.
