The white grail

Hospices de Salquenen Assemblage white

AOC Valais
For travelers and pilgrims, the Hospitaller hospice, founded in Salgesch in the 13th century, possibly for its wine, was like a grail. Here, under God's hand, they found protection, shelter, and nourishment. The Assemblage Blanc proudly displays this grail on its label, offering its owner equally divine moments of pleasure.

Wine history
chevron-down

Salgesch still proudly bears the Maltese cross in the village coat of arms. The clergymen who settled in the heart of Valais during the Middle Ages followed their vows, offering exemplary hospitality and medical care to travelers, the sick, and those in need.

Thanks to the generous donations from the local population, the order was able to accomplish truly knightly deeds. The winemakers of Salgesch supported the charitable brothers by providing them with wine, which was stored in large wooden barrels in the cool cellar of the hospice. As the water from the village well was often of poor quality and filled with germs, the Hospitallers relied on pure wine to restore the strength of weary travelers and the sick. It is no surprise that the reputation of this wine, served in Salgesch, soon spread far beyond the Simplon.

The wines of the "Hospices de Salquenen" line, created by Diego Mathier, winemaker of the decade, are a delightful tribute to the exceptional dedication of the Hospitallers, a legacy that Salgesch still proudly honors today.

Tasting note
chevron-down

On the nose, exotic fruits with freshness and vibrancy on the palate. A dry white wine with a beautiful acidity structure.

Vinification
chevron-down

Destemmed grapes. Temperature-controlled fermentation followed by aging in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out only with Chasselas, while the flavorful fruit acidity is preserved in the Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
