    Wine history
    chevron-down

The Merlot grape is the second most common wine variety in the world, after Cabernet Sauvignon. The origin of Merlot lies in the Bordeaux wine region of France. The grape is named after the small bird "Merle" (blackbird in English), which is particularly fond of this fruit.

The Merlot is dedicated to Nadia Mathier within the family line. The label of this red wine features a heart, symbolizing our core, the seat of the soul, and representing love and life. It was this love that brought Nadia to Diego in Salgesch during her youth, and from this union, five wonderful daughters were born. With great dedication, Nadia devotes herself daily not only to her family but also to the business and warmly cares for the well-being of our cellar visitors.

    Tasting note
    chevron-down

The Merlot presents itself in a deep Bordeaux-red robe. Thanks to the self-imposed yield limitation – see vinification – the wine reveals a concentrated bouquet with aromas of ripe fruits, spices, and elderberry. A hint of oak bark reflects the extended barrel aging, without overshadowing the grape's character. The velvety tannins are already well integrated, and the finish is long-lasting and smoothly rounded.

    Vinification
    chevron-down

Strict yield limitation to 600 grams per square meter. The grapes are destemmed. Fermentation takes place in Vinimatics, ensuring optimal temperature control. The wine is then aged for 15 to 18 months in new oak barrels.
