Château Moulin Pey-Labrie 2001 pairs excellently with braised lamb or beef, whose rich flavors beautifully highlight the wine’s complexity and minerality. It also reveals its elegance alongside aged hard cheeses like Comté or a robust Manchego. Herb-infused dishes, such as those with thyme or rosemary, further enhance its delicate herbal notes.
Château Moulin Pey-Labrie takes its name from an old mill located on the vineyard grounds. "Pey" means "upper slope." The estate was acquired by Bénédicte and Grégoire Hubau, originally from northern France. The vines benefit from an exposed position and a terroir characterized by clay and limestone slopes.
Château Moulin Pey-Labrie reflects the unique climate of the Gironde banks in its fruit. Its length and depth showcase the mineral-rich soils of Canon-Fronsac. The wine combines impressive complexity with elegant harmony, bringing together dark berry and herbal notes. Enjoyable even in its youth, a good vintage of Château Moulin Pey-Labrie can mature for up to 15 years.
The grapes are hand-harvested at full ripeness in small crates. Complete destemming is performed. Fermentation is prolonged and takes place in small tanks equipped with temperature control. Aging occurs in 30 to 50% new barrels.
The vines, averaging over 65 years in age, benefit from a prime location and a terroir defined by clay and limestone slopes.
