The wine from Chateau Poujeaux pairs exceptionally well with all types of classic meat dishes, including veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, as well as roasted, braised, and grilled dishes. It is also a perfect match for Asian cuisine, savory fish dishes such as tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and cheese.
The "Left Bank" of Bordeaux includes wine regions such as Médoc, Graves, and Pessac-Léognan, along with many smaller areas. This area is home to the first official Bordeaux classification of 1855. While the wines from the "Right Bank" are highly esteemed, the Left Bank produces numerous outstanding local appellations. Located in this region is the renowned Château Poujeaux, a prestigious estate in the Bordeaux area. Since early 2008, the estate has been managed by Philippe Cuvelier from Paris.
A deep, dark garnet red with intense, delicate aromas of cherry and a hint of pepper. On the palate, it reveals a juicy, lingering body with smooth yet dense and silky tannins. This Bordeaux impresses with its richness and potential. The aromatic diversity recalls black currants, dark blossoms, and cassis, complemented by black cherries, blackberries, a touch of lilac, and violet. The palate displays pronounced minerality with notes of salt and stone, accompanied by intense fruit that lingers. One of the finest among Moulis wines, it offers enjoyment even in its youth but can also mature gracefully in the cellar for another decade.
The wines are produced in a traditional manner. Fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and approximately 12 months of aging in French oak barrels. Each year, a new combination of barrels is selected, using 30-40% new wood.
Château Poujeaux originates from the Moulis appellation and is produced from a single, contiguous 72-hectare vineyard located in the northeastern part of the region. The vines, averaging 30 years in age, benefit from an exceptional location on the ridges of Günzian gravel soils. This outstanding terroir is perfectly suited to Médoc grape varieties.
