The history of Montrose has been shaped over two centuries by three owner families, each leaving a mark of their unique spirit. This legacy reflects their pursuit of perfection and legendary vintages. As pioneers in Médoc, they were builders, visionaries, and wise stewards who understood how to appreciate and enhance this exceptional terroir. Thanks to them, the estate has a solid foundation on which Montrose today strengthens its distinctive image and unique position in the world of exceptional wines.
Following the Charmolüe dynasty, the second owner family, Martin and Olivier Bouygues acquired Château Montrose in 2006, a wine they fell in love with through tastings introduced by their father, Francis Bouygues. Aware of the potential of this unique terroir, they decided to invest in this Grand Cru, recognizing its quality and richness even then.
La Dame de Montrose, produced from the same vineyard site and with the same care as the Grand Vin, is a second selection made predominantly from Merlot and characterised by a soft, silky structure.
The fruity aromas of La Dame de Montrose St-Estèphe AOC Second Vin unfold with notes of stewed fruit, spices and tobacco, conveying impressive complexity and a unique structure. This is followed by striking nuances of black cherry, plum and black pepper, which give the wine its individual character. A strong body and dominant acidity characterise this fruity red wine, which shows plenty of character and class with fine tannins in the mouth.
This wine was created in 1983 in honor of Yvonne Charmolüe, who managed Château Montrose alone from 1944 to 1960. It is aged for 12 months in 30% new barrels and represents an average of 40-45% of the total production from the Montrose vineyard.
Château Montrose is one of Bordeaux's premier vineyards, with a historically unified 95-hectare estate that enables optimal vineyard management. Its unique terroir, composed of gravel and clay soils, provides natural drainage and water reserves, creating ideal conditions for producing exceptional wines. Each parcel, ranging from a few ares to two hectares, has distinct characteristics that contribute to the complexity of Montrose wines.
