In the picturesque village of Cazzano di Tramigna, near the enchanting town of Soave, the Bennati family's story began in 1870. Antonio Bennati, affectionately known as "Toni Recioto" – a nod to the renowned sweet straw wine of Verona's countryside – laid the foundation for a winemaking tradition that thrives to this day. With passion and dedication, he crafted wines and sold them in distinctive straw-wrapped bottles.
After the turbulence of World War I, Antonio and his son Annibale created a legacy in 1920: the Cantine Bennati winery. Now in its fourth generation, the estate combines tradition with innovation. For the Bennati family, winemaking is a journey—a way to tell stories, evoke emotions, and transport people to timeless places. With a committed and talented team, they craft wines that leave a lasting impression and create unforgettable moments.
This wine captivates with an intense bouquet of ripe berries and stone fruits. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, featuring hints of stewed plums and cherries with a subtle, sweet tobacco note. Its deep red hue reflects ripe fruits, especially cherries, elegantly complemented by touches of vanilla, tobacco, and cocoa. The finish is long-lasting and smooth.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and pressed. The grapes and must are then placed in tanks together with selected yeasts to start the alcoholic fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature (24-25°C) in order to extract the fruitier components of the grape skin. In the Ripasso process, the Valpolicella Superiore is macerated with fermented marc from raisined grapes that were previously used for the production of Recioto or Amarone. This process makes the wine richer and more complex both on the palate and on the nose, so that it is no longer simply called ‘Valpolicella Superiore’, but is given the name Ripasso. The wine is only partially filtered to allow a broader expression of the organoleptic characteristics of the grape varieties used. Any slight deposits are proof of the naturalness of the product.
