This Crozes-Hermitage is perfect with grilled or roasted meat: beef such as rib steak or beef bourguignon, sausages and even duck breast. Game such as venison is also ideal, as are classic grilled sausages and hearty stews. Its character also harmonises perfectly with mushroom risotto or mature, strong cheeses, making it a versatile accompaniment to convivial meals.
The Ferraton Père & Fils estate was founded in 1946 by Jean-Orëns Ferraton on the Hermitage hill. In the 1960s, his son Michel expanded the business, integrating vineyards in Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph, as well as a partnership with Michel Chapoutier. Since 1998, the estate has been working organically, and later fully biodynamically. Today, a young, dynamic team cultivates around 18 hectares of top vineyards and produces characterful Syrah wines using traditional and modern methods. Ferraton is considered one of the leading producers in the northern Rhône Valley, known for its selections and successful blend of innovation and respect for the terroir.
Deep cherry red in the glass. On the nose, fine notes of red berries and blackcurrant. On the palate, the wine is balanced, soft and pleasantly round.
The grapes are vinified in tanks. Fermentation lasts approximately 20 days and is temperature-controlled. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months before being bottled.
The soils are based on glacial deposits of gravel, scree and red loam. The interplay of continental and Mediterranean climates ensures plenty of sunshine and warm average temperatures – ideal conditions for optimal grape ripening.
