Bodegas Casa Castillo, formerly known as Julia Roche e Hijos, is a family-run winery situated on the Jumilla plateau, covering 200 hectares of vineyards. Originally founded in 1870 by French winemakers, the estate was acquired in 1941 by José Sánchez-Cerezo, who initially used it for rosemary cultivation. However, some vines were also planted. In the 1980s, the family decided to resume winemaking, restoring the old vines planted in the 1940s.
A deep cherry red gleams in the glass. The bouquet combines aromas of jam and coffee. On the palate, the wine is robust and full-bodied, with ripe and enduring tannins. An elegant interplay of fruit and subtle woody nuances completes the experience.
The three grape varieties are aged for 16 months in 500-liter French oak barrels. The blend may vary depending on the vintage, but the wine always contains at least 70–80% Monastrell.
A rugged landscape where vineyards are located on a plateau between 400 and 800 meters above sea level. Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C, while winters are freezing, with temperatures dropping below zero. These extreme climatic conditions provide the perfect environment for the Monastrell grape to develop its full complexity and depth.
