This wine pairs perfectly with grilled meat, game, and fish, enhancing their flavors in a distinctive way.
The story of the Adega de Pegões Winery began when landowner and beer magnate José Rovisco Pais donated his estate to the public hospitals of Lisbon. The government implemented an extensive settlement program on these lands, allocating plots to thousands of agricultural workers. At the same time, 2900 hectares of vineyards were planted. On March 7, 1958, a cooperative was established to provide technical and logistical support to the new settlers ("Colonos").
Flavors of red berries and ripe dark fruits dominate the palate. Subtle notes of jam complement the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is rich and powerful. The finish is remarkably long-lasting.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for 12 months in American and French oak barrels, followed by an additional four months of refinement in bottles.
The Setúbal Peninsula, where our wines are crafted, is distinguished by its ideal climate. The region boasts pozolithic and sandy soils that are particularly rich in water. The climate is shaped by Mediterranean influences, complemented by the mild conditions provided by the Atlantic’s proximity.
