A versatile champagne for aperitifs and meals. Particularly lovely with oysters in lemon vinaigrette, scallops on cauliflower purée or turbot with beurre blanc; it is also excellent with mature Comté.
Louis Roederer was founded in Reims in 1776 and remains one of the few major Champagne houses that have stayed independent and family-owned to this day. When Louis Roederer took over the management in 1833, he focused early on acquiring his own vineyards and purchased his first Grand Cru plots in 1845. Today, the estate comprises around 250 hectares across Champagne’s most significant terroirs. With the Collection, the house has reimagined its classic Brut cuvée: each vintage interprets a specific harvest and combines it with the Réserve Perpétuelle, cultivated since 2012, as well as selected reserve wines.
A luminous golden yellow with a very fine, even perlage. The bouquet combines mirabelle plums, nectarines and candied lemon with floral notes, vanilla and subtle toasty hints. On the palate, it is light-footed yet creamy, with juicy fruit, chalky freshness and a salty precision. The finish is crisp, elegant and subtly smoky.
Vinification may vary slightly depending on the vintage. The current Collection blends 55% of the 2021 harvest with 35% Réserve Perpétuelle and 10% reserve wines aged in wood; 24% of the base wines are vinified in French oak barrels. Following the second fermentation in the bottle, the champagne is dosed at 7 g/l.
