The story of Poggio Le Volpi spans almost a century, beginning in 1920 with Manlio Mergè. Driven by his passion for wine and oil, he laid the foundation for a family tradition that thrives to this day. His legacy was carried forward by his son Armando and grandson Felice. In 1996, they brought Manlio's vision to life by founding Poggio Le Volpi in Monte Porzio Catone – a naturally fertile volcanic area. With passion and innovation, Armando expanded the company from local roots to national fame. Felice, a trained oenologist, has transformed Poggio Le Volpi into one of the most exciting wineries in Lazio, now celebrated by wine enthusiasts worldwide.
Aromas of jam and ripe red fruit on the nose. In the mouth develops an attractive flavour of cinnamon and cooked figs, which give it a beautiful structure, followed by a long finish.
The grapes are traditionally harvested by hand and placed in open vats for 20 to 30 days at controlled temperatures. The deliberate choice is made to avoid crushing the grapes. For refinement, the wine is then aged for 10 months in French oak barrels.
The vineyards are located in the plain, characterised by red earth and ferrous soils on calcareous subsoil, shaped by the influence of the sea winds.
