This Chasselas is an excellent choice for an aperitif, pairs beautifully with fish dishes, and complements cheese perfectly.
The origins of the establishment trace back to the 16th century. In 1816, Jakob Engel acquired the so-called Aebischer House and thus laid the foundation for today’s winery. The Engel family, originally from Thurgau, had already settled by Lake Biel in the Middle Ages. The name "Frauenkopf" refers to a field name above Twann, known as "Frauenkopf." This designation originates from the Cistercian nuns of Fraubrunnen Abbey, who owned the area in the late Middle Ages. To this day, Frauenkopf is the winery’s prime site, characterized by the region’s distinctive dry-stone walls and a stunning view of St. Peter’s Island.
This Chasselas appears vibrant and refreshing, with hints of linden blossoms and subtle citrus aromas. It is a light and fruit-forward wine.
This Chasselas is matured in stainless steel tanks.
The dry, rocky soils at the southern foot of the Jura are characterized by a high limestone content. Another defining feature of the terroir is the lake's heat-retaining effect, combined with slopes that reach inclinations of up to 60 percent.
