This delicate Pinot Noir pairs perfectly with cured meats, pork and chicken dishes, as well as pan-fried fish.
The roots of the winery date back to the 16th century. In 1816, Jakob Engel laid the foundation for the modern estate by purchasing the so-called Aebischer House. Originally from Thurgau, the Engel family settled by Lake Biel as early as the Middle Ages. The field name "Frauenkapf," derived from the Cistercian nuns of Fraubrunnen Abbey, inspired the modern name "Frauenkopf." In the late Middle Ages, this area was part of the abbey’s holdings. To this day, Frauenkapf remains one of the winery’s finest locations, characterized by the region’s iconic dry-stone walls and a stunning view of St. Peter’s Island.
This Pinot Noir from Lake Biel impresses with an enticing bouquet of dark berries. On the palate, it reveals a rich, complex character with delicate hints of oak.
The Pinot Noir achieves its perfection after twelve months of aging in French oak barrels.
The southern foothills of the Jura are characterized by limestone-rich, dry, and rocky soils. The terroir is further enhanced by the lake’s heat-retaining properties. Combined with steep slopes reaching inclinations of up to 60 percent, this creates excellent conditions for viticulture.
