A versatile food companion: pairs excellently with braised beef ribs with rosemary potatoes or a hearty vegetable tart with goat's cheese. Lamb rack with herb crust or a classic beef bourguignon also harmonise perfectly with its richness and elegance.
The Saager family from Zurich has been steering the fortunes of Eikendal Vineyards since 1981 – and recognised early on the promise of the ‘Golden Triangle’ between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. On 76 hectares, shaped by Atlantic breezes, False Bay coolness and characterful soils, grapes full of expression are grown. Precise viticulture and sensitive cellar craftsmanship keep fruit, structure and elegance in balance. The result is wines with international appeal that prove that origin and modernity are not opposites, but a liaison in the glass.
Deep ruby red in the glass, the Cabernet Sauvignon unfolds a refined bouquet of ripe berries, dark chocolate, subtle spice and a hint of pencil shavings. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant: silky tannins, fruity nuances and subtle oak notes combine to form a harmonious whole with a long, lingering finish.
The wine is aged in barriques.
The vineyards on the Helderberg, planted in 2004, are rooted in “Koffieklip” soils with a deep layer of loam. The maritime climate with cool, wet winters and refreshing Atlantic breezes in summer provides ideal conditions.
