The oak-aged Chardonnay enhances dishes such as sauced fish, seafood, and poultry with its refined character.
In 1559, Blaise Junod, Governor of Valangin, commissioned the construction of Château d’Auvernier. In 1603, the estate was acquired by Pierre Chambrier, a prominent figure of his time. The purchase also included a vineyard spanning 19 fossuriers (approximately 7 hectares), which remains the core of the estate to this day.
For over 400 years, Château d’Auvernier has been owned by the same family. During this time, the winery has produced wines of exceptional quality, appreciated both in Switzerland and internationally. Despite a history shaped by notable figures such as military leaders, regents, and statesmen, winemaking remains the heart and soul of the estate.
This wine is characterized by a delicate golden hue. Its aroma is vibrant and fruity, with a rich and lingering presence on the palate. Aging in oak barrels enhances it with refined notes, culminating in a subtle touch of vanilla in the finish.
The grapes are handpicked between late September and early October. After harvest, they are quickly crushed and pressed. Following initial clarification, alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels, 25% of which are replaced annually. The wine matures in barrels for 12 months, with regular stirring during the first six months of aging.
The Neuchâtel wine region, situated in the geological continuation of Burgundy, offers excellent conditions for cultivating Chardonnay. The grapes for this refined wine thrive on a terroir of moderately deep limestone soils with a low clay content.
