Excellent with rack of lamb with herb crust or beef fillet with truffle jus. Also suitable: pigeon with celery purée or porcini risotto – dishes with structure and depth that complement the distinctive, elegant style of the wine.
Berliquet is one of the historic names of Saint-Emilion. Since 2017, the estate has been managed by Chanel; the technical management works closely with the team at Château Canon. Careful plot work, gentle cellar techniques and a cautious grape variety conversion (more Cabernet Franc) have sharpened the style: clear fruit, chalky tension, lasting elegance.
Dark cherry, cassis and plum on the nose, accompanied by violets, light tobacco, fine herbs and a hint of graphite. Dense, silky and precise on the palate, with polished, ripe tannins; the fruit remains clear and cool, the texture showing traction and length. The finish is long, mineral and subtly salty – a hint of limestone.
Hand-picked by plot, multi-stage selection, temperature-controlled fermentation with gentle extraction. Maturation for around 16–18 months in French barriques (a significant proportion of which are new); selective use of amphorae to emphasise fruit and clarity.
The vines are located on the western plateau and the adjacent slopes of Saint-Emilion: calcareous subsoil with clay and gravel inclusions. This combination stores water, reflects light and gives the wine its blend of juicy depth, cool freshness and fine, chalky signature.
