The Château Cantemerle MC AC Haut-Médoc is a versatile red wine whose fresh and vibrant fruit pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Its fruity notes create a pleasant contrast with poultry and game. It also complements grilled red meat, cheese, and even chocolate desserts, enhancing the flavors and rounding out the tasting experience.
With origins dating back to 1147, Château Cantemerle is one of the oldest estates in Haut-Médoc. Originally used as a defense post along the Médoc shores, traces of its medieval past are still found on Cantemerle.
The vineyard’s true birth began in the 16th century when descendants of Jehan de Villeneuve planted the first vines in 1579. In 1855, Château Cantemerle was classified as a 5ème Grand Cru Classé, before being sold to new owners at the end of the 19th century.
During World War II, more than two-thirds of the vineyards were destroyed. In 1981, the Mutuelles d’Assurance du Bâtiment et des Travaux Publics acquired the estate, restored it extensively, and replanted vines.
Today, Laure Canu leads the 90 hectares of vineyards with a new team in place since 2021, restoring consistency, elegance, and depth to Château Cantemerle’s wines.
The tannins are soft, and the wine reveals delicate aromas on the palate. In its youth, it is always gentle and silky, gaining complexity and power after a few years of cellaring.
Château Cantemerle 2021 is a wine from Haut-Médoc, produced from a 96-hectare vineyard with vines averaging 40 years, growing on quaternary gravel and silica soils. The 2021 vintage is a terroir-driven year with a more classic style, shaped by variable weather and high disease pressure.
Despite the severe frost on April 7 and 8, the dedication of the teams and the sandy-gravel soils enabled the harvest of healthy, perfectly ripe grapes, revealing a beautiful freshness and radiant fruit.
