This Médoc pairs beautifully with hearty meat dishes such as grilled entrecôte, rack of lamb with herb crust or wild boar ragout. Mature hard cheeses such as Comté or Pecorino also highlight the depth and complexity of the wine.
Château Potensac has been firmly rooted in the history of the Delon family for generations – always passed down through the women, it came to Jean-Hubert Delon via his grandmother Georgette Liquard. Located in the far north of the Médoc, the estate has always benefited from its privileged location ‘au milieu des eaux’. With 60 hectares on the best soils of Ordonnac, Potensac is today a symbol of consistency, terroir fidelity and the unique longevity of great Médoc wines.
The 2022 Potensac is a deep ruby red with lively cassis fruit, blackberry and hints of mint, tobacco and graphite. Dense and complex on the palate, carried by ripe black fruits, fine spice, elegant barrique notes and compact, silky tannins. Its length and structure promise great ageing potential.
The wine is aged for twelve months in barriques, around 20% of which are new, with the rest in used barrels from Léoville-Las-Cases.
The vineyards of Château Potensac are located on one of the highest elevations in the northern Médoc. The terroir, with its calcareous subsoil, interspersed with clayey-gravelly hilltops and abundant gravel, is strongly reminiscent of Saint-Estèphe. Cabernet vines over 75 years old are rooted here, producing healthy, concentrated grapes – the foundation for the remarkable depth and longevity of this Médoc classic.
