Culinary recommendation
chevron-down

Pairs excellently with pasta with ragù, grilled lamb chops or Florentine steak. It is also an ideal accompaniment to risotto with mushrooms or mature Pecorino cheese.

Wine history
chevron-down

The roots of Rocca delle Macìe date back to the early 1970s, when Italo Zingarelli realised his dream of acquiring the Le Macìe winery in Castellina in Chianti and making wine. 1973 was the starting point, and today the estate is one of Tuscany's declared greats: With several vineyards under the management of his son Sergio, Rocca delle Macìe combines tradition and innovation. Sustainability, honest grapes and a love of the terroir characterise their family mission.

Tasting note
chevron-down

Rocca delle Macie's Chianti Classico DOCG has a bright ruby red colour. The nose has fruity notes, delicately underpinned by a subtle spiciness from the wooden barrel. Juicy on the palate, with good structure, lively freshness and aromatic length – a Sangiovese full of character and elegance.

Vinification
chevron-down

The wine is aged in French and Slavonian oak barrels.

The grapes for Rocca delle Macie's Chianti Classico DOCG grow in the hills around Castellina in Chianti. Here, calcareous and clayey soils, interspersed with galestro and alberese rock, together with the Mediterranean climate, provide the ideal basis for Sangiovese wines with a strong character.
