The perfect partner for hearty dishes such as côte de boeuf with herb butter or braised lamb ragout. Fine cheeses – such as mature Comté or Pecorino – also allow the Classique to shine. If you prefer something more modern, try it with grilled aubergine with harissa and couscous – a match made in heaven.
Since 1981, the Saager family from Zurich has been shaping the Eikendal Vineyards winery – with an eye for the potential of the ‘Golden Triangle’ between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. On 76 hectares, influenced by Atlantic breezes, False Bay coolness and distinctive soils, grapes with character grow. Careful viticulture and a keen sense in the cellar combine fruit, structure and elegance. The result: wines of international calibre that show that origin and modernity do not compete, but form a perfect alliance in the glass.
Bright ruby red in the glass, the Classique unfolds a complex bouquet of dark berries, fine spice and a hint of graphite. On the palate, it is dense and elegant at the same time, with perfectly integrated tannins, fresh acidity and subtle roasted aromas. A wine with depth and balance that is already a pleasure to drink and can be left to mature for years to come.
The wine is aged for 18 months in barriques.
100% Stellenbosch grapes, grown on weathered Koffieklip soils using the vertical shoot system. Only selected parcels from the Eikendal farm, with targeted foliage management for more fruit, colour and structure.
