The kingmaker

Cuvée Schwarzer König

Zurich AOC
A majestic appearance – without a sceptre, but with presence. The Cuvée Schwarzer König from the Schwarz Winery (one third each of Shiraz, Merlot and Dornfelder) reveals seductive notes of raspberry and wild berries on the nose, accompanied by an elegant hint of liquorice. Powerful and structured on the palate, with passion, breed and a spicy finish full of plum accents. A wine that reigns supreme in the evening – without imposing itself.

Culinary recommendation
chevron-down

This powerful yet smooth cuvée is an excellent accompaniment to aromatic meat dishes such as braised beef with root vegetables, lamb chops with rosemary or entrecôte with pepper sauce. A classic game dish such as venison pepper or a hearty beef ragout with polenta also brings out the structure and spice of the wine wonderfully. For vegetarians, try ratatouille or grilled aubergines with a spicy tomato sauce. Also ideal with mature hard cheeses.

Wine history
chevron-down

Heinrich Schwarz Sr. planted the first vines in 1968, laying the foundation for a passion for agriculture. After a period of increasing reorientation, his son Andreas took over the business in 2004 and converted it entirely to viticulture. Today, he manages the seven-hectare estate using organic methods, where sustainability meets innovation and naturalness. The philosophy is clear: as little intervention as possible, own vine material, wild yeasts and working closely with the terroir. National and international awards testify to the strength of this clear signature: pure, characterful wines with regional origins – made with sensitivity and a love of nature.

Tasting note
chevron-down

The nose offers a seductive interplay of ripe raspberries, dark forest berries and a hint of liquorice. The palate is powerful on the attack, with present, finely-grained tannins that combine structure and elegance. The finish is complex with notes of plums and spicy depth. A characterful wine with polish, fullness and remarkable energy.

Vinification
