In the 1980s, Guido Brivio launched his own wine brand and established a close collaboration with the renowned Gialdi winery, which was already specialized in processing grapes from the Sottoceneri region. Brivio wines focus on varieties from southern Ticino. In 2001, Brivio Vini SA was acquired by Gialdi Vini SA, expanding the portfolio to include wines from northern Ticino.
Exceptionally intense and complex. Dominant aromas of red and black berries are complemented by spicy herbal notes like lavender and subtle roasted hints of tobacco and menthol. On the palate, it is powerful, fresh, and fruity, yet elegant with excellent structure. The well-integrated tannins provide a velvety mouthfeel, leading to a spicy finish reminiscent of licorice.
The vinification follows a traditional method, with an extended maceration period of 9 to 14 days in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures (28–32°C). After fermentation, the wine is aged for over 13 months in French barriques, 60% new and 40% one-year-old. The two grape varieties are vinified separately and blended shortly before bottling. Frequent racking of the barriques allows for bottling without fining, cold stabilization, or filtration. This gentle approach may result in a slight sediment in the bottle.
The finest vineyards in Ticino, where the soil and climate are perfectly suited to the needs of Gamaret and Merlot grapes, offering ideal conditions for their growth.
