The unconventional

Malbec Bastard

Zurich AOC
This wine has no desire to behave itself – and that is precisely what makes it so charming. A Malbec with rough edges and a twinkle in its eye. One that likes to show off at the table instead of falling into line. Ideal for bon vivants who prefer to pour another glass rather than think about it. Unconventional? Thank goodness!

Culinary recommendation
chevron-down

The Malbec Bastard is an excellent accompaniment to strong dishes with character. It is particularly harmonious with grilled beef, braised lamb shank or spicy spare ribs. Game dishes such as venison pepper or saddle of venison also harmonise wonderfully. For cheese lovers, mature Manchego or blue cheese round off the taste experience perfectly.

Wine history
chevron-down

Heinrich Schwarz Sr. planted the first vines in 1968, laying the foundation for a passion for agriculture. After a period of reorientation, his son Andreas took over the business in 2004 and converted it entirely to viticulture. Today, he manages the seven-hectare estate using organic methods, where sustainability meets innovation and naturalness. The philosophy is clear: as little intervention as possible, own vine material, wild yeasts and working very close to the terroir. National and international awards testify to the strength of this clear signature: pure, characterful wines with regional origins – made with sensitivity and a love of nature.

Tasting note
chevron-down

The nose is enticing with aromas of ripe raspberries and dark forest berries, underpinned by delicate floral notes and subtle oak. On the palate, the wine is powerful and juicy, with a dense texture and great balance. The tannins are smoothly integrated and lead to a round, long-lasting finish. A wine with character and drive.

Vinification

The wine is aged for 16 months in barriques.

Vineyards
chevron-down

The grapes for this wine thrive in the Geistig vineyard, which is characterised by its south-southwest exposure and abundant evening sun – ideal conditions for optimal ripening. The soil is sandy loam with a high silt content, which ensures a balanced supply of water and nutrients and gives the wine its complex character.
