The oak-aged Pinot Noir reveals its full potential not only with poultry but also as an ideal companion to beef, lamb, or game dishes.
In 1559, Blaise Junod, then Governor of Valangin, commissioned the construction of Château d’Auvernier. In 1603, Pierre Chambrier, a prominent figure of his time, acquired the estate. The purchase included a vineyard of 19 fossuriers (around 7 hectares), which remains the centerpiece of the property to this day.
For over 400 years, Château d’Auvernier has been owned by the same family. During this period, the winery has produced wines of exceptional quality, celebrated both in Switzerland and internationally. Despite a history shaped by influential figures such as military leaders, regents, and statesmen, winemaking remains the core and purpose of the estate.
A wine with a ruby-red hue and delicate hints of red berries and hazelnuts. Its elegance and depth are captivating. Some prefer it young and vibrant, while others enjoy it aged, appreciating its gentler and more complex characteristics.
The grapes are carefully handpicked between late September and early October. After destemming, they are lightly or not at all crushed and undergo maceration for three to five days at 10°C, followed by fermentation lasting about ten days at temperatures between 20 and 35°C. After fermentation, the wine is transferred from tanks to barrels for a final aging period of 12 to 18 months.
The Neuchâtel wine region, located in the geological continuation of Burgundy, provides excellent conditions for Pinot Noir. The vines thrive on a terroir with shallow to moderately deep limestone soils and a low to medium clay content.
