This wine calls for dishes with substance, without being overpowering. Excellent with roast beef fillet with pepper jus, lamb rump with herb crust or a hearty porcini mushroom risotto. A mature Gruyère or hard cheese made from cow's milk also goes well with it.
Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a classified Second Grand Cru in the Médoc, with a deep-rooted history and a continuous pursuit of excellence. Under the leadership of visionary owners, the estate has been modernised step by step – a living symbiosis of tradition and innovation. The ‘Réserve de la Comtesse’ embodies the desire to convey the highest standards and depth even in the second row.
The Réserve de la Comtesse 2022 presents itself in a dark purple colour with a delicate violet rim. The nose reveals intense aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherry and blackberry, accompanied by subtle notes of violet flowers, cedar wood, a hint of tobacco and dark chocolate. On the palate, it presents velvety fruit and soft, ripe tannins. A lively freshness and subtle tension give it balance and depth. The mid-palate is round and harmonious, supported by fine spice, before an elegant, mineral finish completes the taste experience.
Vinification involves selective hand-picking, temperature-controlled fermentation and gentle extraction, followed by ageing in French oak barrels (some of which are new).
The vines thrive on the gravelly, well-drained terroirs of Pauillac – a soil that allows concentration and freshness to be brought into harmonious balance.
