Santagostino Rosso is versatile at the table: perfect with braised veal cheeks with polenta, rack of lamb with herb crust or Sicilian caponata. Strong pasta dishes such as tagliatelle al ragù di cinghiale or a piece of mature pecorino are also ideal partners.
Firriato began in the early 1980s in the province of Trapani, when Salvatore Di Gaetano and Vinzia Novara wanted to bottle Sicily's diversity. At the heart of the estate is Baglio Sorìa near Trapani: 110 hectares of red marl and clay soils, close to the sea. This is where Santagostino Rosso was created – the winery's flagship wine for over 30 years: Nero d'Avola meets Syrah, a bold liaison at the time that resonated internationally. Today, the family cultivates six certified organic vineyards across the island – from hills to volcanic soils to the coast – and consistently pursues the idea of ‘authentic terroir’. The result: a piece of Sicilian history, sustainably conceived and modernly interpreted.
Dark ruby with violet reflections. On the nose, an intense interplay of blackberries, cherries and plums, accompanied by cocoa, vanilla and Mediterranean herbs. Elegant and dense on the palate, velvety tannins, balanced acidity and a long, aromatic finish with notes of spices and ripe fruit. A red wine that combines power and elegance.
The wine is aged for 8 months in oak barrels.
The vines for Santagostino Rosso grow on the Baglio Sorìa estate in the Trapani countryside. On clayey-calcareous soils at an altitude of 200 metres, facing south to south-west, they benefit from plenty of sunshine and fresh sea breezes. This terroir gives the grapes a balance of power, elegance and Sicilian character.
