The Spiez vineyard is one of the highest wine-growing areas north of the Alps and looks back on an eventful history. In 1927, Hans Barben brought together a handful of passionate wine lovers – the starting signal for Spiez viticulture. Just one year later, the first Riesling-Sylvaner vines were ripening. A brief detour to Gutedel failed due to the soil conditions, so they soon returned to the tried and tested Riesling-Sylvaner.
This passion gave rise to a strong community dedicated to expanding the vineyards. In 1942, the association was transformed into a cooperative – a milestone that still forms the foundation of Spiez winegrowing today. With passion, tradition and a constant pioneering spirit, the winegrowers have since ensured that the wines from Spiez reflect not only their origin but also the passion of their makers.
Spiez Sauvignac presents itself with floral aromas, fresh citrus notes and subtle hints of apricot. On the palate, it is elegant and full-bodied, supported by a subtle saltiness and a long, clear finish. Its freshness and structure also give it remarkable ageing potential.
The wine is matured in stainless steel tanks.
