The Ismael Arroyo – ValSotillo winery represents a centuries-old family tradition of winemaking that dates back to the 16th century. In 1979, Ismael Arroyo, a pioneer in the Ribera del Duero region, began bottling wines under the names Mesoneros de Castilla and ValSotillo. As a co-founder of the D.O. Ribera del Duero in 1982, the winery combines deep historical roots with an unwavering dedication to top-quality production. Renowned for their longevity, these wines are among the most elegant and complex in the region, far removed from fleeting trends and fads.
In the glass, it reveals a deep cherry red. On the nose, the wine is intensely aromatic and elegant, with notes of ripe fruit, spices, truffle, coffee, and tea. On the palate, it impresses with a well-balanced structure, a full-bodied texture, and a silky, long-lasting finish.
The Tempranillo grapes are hand-harvested only towards the end of the warm month of September. After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for at least 24 months in American oak barriques. Following bottling, it matures for an additional 12 months in the bottle.
On sunny soils of clay, limestone, and sandstone, vines thrive, some of which are as old as 90 years. Their average age is 50 years, and they grow across more than 25 hectares of vineyard.
