Wine history
chevron-down

Viognier is originally a French grape variety that quickly gained international attention. However, it almost disappeared due to the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th century. At Mathier, this grape variety was rediscovered some time ago, and this full-bodied wine is now proudly placed in the spotlight.

The golden-yellow capsule is a tribute to the fully ripened grapes, which, at harvest, glow in a deep, promising shade of gold. The label features the original Salgesch pyramids, with the Rhône winding through the Valais in the background, symbolically connecting Viognier in the Valais with its homeland in France.

Tasting note
chevron-down

The Viognier from Mathier presents itself with aromatic notes of peach, apricot, and a touch of citrus on the nose. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with a smoothly rounded acidity. The finish is pleasantly long and warm.

Vinification

Classic vinification in stainless steel tanks. In warmer years, malolactic fermentation is avoided.
